8 Elements of Living Wholly Nourished

Every time you eat is an opportunity to nourish your body…every single cell…so that it can carry out essential functions and help you feel and perform your best. I want you to put the best fuel into your body, while maintaining flexibility and ditching any rigid “diet” rules. Rules eventually lead to feelings of failure. Nobody has time for that. Instead fill most of your plate with veggies leaving room for a smaller portions of whole grains and a protein source. I live by the PHFFV combo…protein (P), healthy fat (HF), fiber (F) and veg (V)…which you will see me reference frequently.

Physical activity is something that the longest living and THRIVING populations have in common. Aside from burning calories, exercise has far more benefits that range from boosting mood to increasing heart health. Set aside some time to sweat each day…a 10 minute yoga flow, an intense crossfit session, a 20-minute walk…they all count!

Find your people who will lift you up, make you laugh and cheer you on. In the Blue Zones it states that a social network and a family support system are two important components of the world’s happiest people. Ever heard the quote “find your tribe and love them hard?” Now’s the time to live it!

This one is three-fold for me. The way to a healthy mindset can be rooted in self-love or acceptance, gratitude and purpose. Here’s how I break it down:

Self Love/Acceptance

You cannot truly love another or spread love unless you love yourself. There is only one you. There is no one else like you and that is truly spectacular. So take a minute and think about the internal dialogue in your head. Are you kind to yourself? Do you put yourself down? Are you overly self-critical? Next, if you have an inner critic tell her to take a hike and replace her with an inner cheerleader. Watch your self-love/acceptance bloom. When you love yourself you will want to NOURISH yourself the way you deserve.

Discover your gifts and share them with others. What sets your soul on fire rather than viewing your life as a neverending to-do list.

Expressing gratitude increases our feelings of positivity and happiness. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying ‘gratitude turns what you have into enough’. If we take a minute to appreciate what we have instead of what we don’t have or what we think we need, then feelings of contentment and peace follow. Keeping a gratitude journal is a great way to nurture this piece.

It’s not selfish, it’s necessary. Investing in yourself whether it be a 2-hour nap, a cup of tea and a book or a splurge at the spa does wonders for your health. It’s a way to press the RESET button in this busy, stressful life and make YOU and your health a priority.

Log at least 7 hours per night. Dive even further and create a nighttime ritual to achieve the best sleep ever. Logging enough sleep brings your best self forward.

We are made of mostly water, therefore proper hydration is crucial. It aids in metabolic reactions, disposal of waste, health of our skin, keeps our hunger in check and so on. Carry a water bottle with you at all times, set a timer on your phone each hour as a reminder to sip if you need…whatever it takes get those ounces in.

Laugh, play, paint, cook, travel…whatever brings you joy… do that!!!
